Halliburton remains
banned from Nigeria
Director General of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority Shamsideen Elegba today revealed that American company will remain banned from operating in Nigeria. The company was banned by the NNRA with the president's approval after the case of missing nuclear parts that turned up in Germany.
Mr. Elegba said that the company was punished for the lackadaisical attitude it took to finding the missing nuclear items which went missing while under its custody. "Two weeks after the ban, they brought the materials back to the country through a chattered flight when they saw that we were serious about the matter," the Director General said.
In addition, the Halliburton has also been accused of bribing previous government officials to get contracts and still attempting to bribe current ones.
Mr. Elegba said that the ban was to expire when the nuclear parts were returned to the country but he insisted that the ban continue and that Halliburton be prevented from operating in Nigeria.
