Virgin Nigeria begins flights to Douala
Wednesday, October 19, 2005

Nigeria's new National carrier Virgin Nigeria has commenced regular flights between Lagos and Douala, Senegal.  The airline was very controversial when it was created and began operating in Nigeria.  Public aviation officials publicly resented the idea of having Nigeria's national airline outsourced to a foreign entity.  Other countries such as the United States of America even levied threats against the young airline, saying it would not let the airline land on its soil.

Regardless of all the objections, Virgin Nigeria has continued to make steady progress.  Beginning with just a couple of flights within the country, Virgin Nigeria introduced regular flights between Nigeria and London, then to Ghana.  In October the airline launched flights to Senegal on the 19th and to Johannesburg, South Africa on the 17th.  Both flights will take off from Lagos.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Virgin Nigeria CEO Simon Harford announced that tickets would go on sale on Wednesday 19th for flights from Lagos to Johannesburg.  "The launch of this route is in response to the increasing requests by our customers to fly them to Johannesburg," Mr. Harford proudly proclaimed.

Tickets can be purchased either by visiting the airline's ordering online or visiting one of their many agents around the country to order in person.
